About Our Coffees

Our Origin Story

In the lush, mist-covered landscapes of Northern Laos' Houaphan province, Yuni Coffee was born from a vision to create extraordinary coffee while fostering sustainable development. Founded by expatriates Tyler and Steve, who shared a passion for coffee and community, Yuni bridges the gap between coffee growers and the global market. Since our inception, we've committed to enhancing the lives of local farmers and elevating the quality of Lao coffee on the world stage.

Our Growing Region

Houaphan's unique climate, with its cool mornings and warm days, offers ideal conditions for coffee cultivation. Here, coffee thrives under natural shade canopies, promoting environmental sustainability. This region, once untapped for its coffee potential, is now emerging as a key player in the specialty coffee sector, thanks to our investments in processing infrastructure and community engagement.

Coffee Varieties and Processing

  • Catimor, Typica, Java, Yellow Catuai: We offer these varieties in over seven single-origin coffees, each processed to highlight its unique flavors:
    • Xam Tai Anaerobic Natural Process: 2,500kg, featuring a mix of Catimor and Java, with notes of strawberry, tamarind, and citrus.
    • Xam Tai Full Washed Process: 2,000kg, characterized by hints of lemon and cocoa.
    • Xam Tai Anaerobic Honey Process: 1,500kg, providing a mild, sweet, and nutty flavor profile.
    • Vieng Xai Full Washed Process: 100kg, offering bright, lemony, and papaya notes.
    • Houameuang Natural Process: 100kg, known for its berry and floral undertones.
    • Houameuang Full Washed Process: 200kg, also bright with lemon and papaya.

Our commitment to quality is evident in our meticulous processing techniques, including anaerobic fermentation and traditional washed methods, which are refined with training from the Coffee Quality Institute.

Sustainable Practices

  • Shade-Grown: We promote planting under natural forest canopies, which not only supports ecological diversity but also provides sustainable income for farmers.
  • Community and Farmer Support: Yuni works directly with over 160 families, offering training, resources, and fair trade practices. We've implemented initiatives like water recycling for local rice fields, employing local youth and women, and providing interest-free loans for farm improvements.

Our dedication to quality has been recognized:
